Friendship week

The whole school have just celebrated Friendship Week, discussing a different text each, but with the aim of sharing it with friends in other year groups. It’s a week to really make the Rainbow values shine and to specifically tackle themes of love, respect, negotiation, belonging, empathy, challenging discrimination, facing your feelings and bullying.

As we have not been able to visit other classes too much over the past few years, we shared what our class had been learning with classes in another year group some class swaps and it was really lovely to hear children talk about the relationships they had made in other year groups. We also took part in Mindfulness Workshops with an external presenter, as well as within out classrooms- practising techniques when we feel calm in order to draw upon these activities and feelings later.

On our Be a Buddy day, every class discussed what it is to be an upstander – someone who doesn’t bystand and just watch someone feel uncomfortable or hurt by the actions of others whether it is online, in person physically or verbally. Every child Nursery to year 6 pledged to be an upstander by uniquely decorating their own balloon.
