Governors Page
We have a committed team of School Governors who meet regularly to discuss school improvements, management and finance. Our School Governing Body reflects the diversity of the local community and is made up of members of the community, parents and staff.
We also have our own Pupil Governors who have been elected to represent the views of their classes on ways to improve our school.
Our Governing Body has a strong and increasingly important role in helping us to expand our capability as an effective school which provides high quality education. They specifically ensure that other bodies are involved in supporting children and families. We’re proud of the commitment of our current governing team to take our school into the next stage of development.
Jennett’s Park Primary School is an academy in the Bonitas Trust.
The Bonitas Trust is a charitable company, limited by guarantee, with the sole purpose of maintaining and developing academy schools to provide comprehensive and inclusive education for the public benefit.
The Trustees of the Bonitas Trust have overall legal responsibility for all the schools in the Trust, but they delegate powers and responsibilities with respect to the governance of each school to its governing body and Headteacher. The governing body is formally called a ‘Local Governing Body’, and is a committee of the Board of Trustees that reports to and is accountable to the Board of Trustees under a Scheme of Delegation of governance functions.
The governing body focus strongly on three core functions:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school;
- Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff;
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
Jennett’s Park Primary School has a committed team of School Governors that reflect the diversity of the local community and is made up of members of the community, parents and staff. It has places for 9 governors who are appointed in a number of different ways to reflect the school’s various stakeholders:
- 4 Foundation / Trust governors are appointed by the Board of Trustees of the Bonitas Trust. 1 Foundation governor will be a member of the clergy and appointed by the Oxford Diocese.
- 2 Parent governors (must be a parent of a pupil at the school at the time of election) are appointed following a ballot of all parents and carers of current pupils.
- 1 Staff governor (must be employed by the school as a member of teaching or non-teaching staff at the time of election) is appointed following a ballot of all teaching staff and non-teaching staff.
- The Headteacher is a governor ex-officio and appointed by the virtue of their role.
All governors except the Headteacher serve for a term of office of four years but may stand for re-appointment or re-election if they wish.
Governors act collectively as the governing body and work closely with the Headteacher and senior leadership team of the school. Governors have primarily a strategic leadership role and delegate the day to day responsibility for the management of the school to the Headteacher. The Headteacher is responsible for the day-to-day running of the school, including implementation of the strategic direction agreed by the governing body, the internal organisation, management and control of the school and the direction of teaching and the curriculum, and for the implementation of the policies approved by the Trust and Local Governing Body.
As well as attending governing body meetings, governors will serve on governing body committees, take part in governor briefings and development activities, visit the school to meet with school staff and attend and engage in a range of school activities.
The Jennett’s Park Primary School Governing Body is a diverse group of people, all volunteers, with a common interest in the school, its staff, pupils and buildings and the community of which it forms a part. Each Governor brings different strengths and skills to the Governing Board, but all have a commitment to helping the school. The governors recognise they have a strong and increasingly important role in helping to the school to expand its capability as an effective school which provides a high quality education. They specifically ensure that other bodies (can there be examples) are involved in supporting children and families. They are proud of the commitment of the current governing team to take the school into the next stage of its development.
