Hello Yellow Day
Some views across the school
Year 3 took part in a class discussion about the different ways we can make others feel happy. The children shared their ideas and responses, which are recorded below.
| Make someone laugh | Share our toys |
| Give someone a hug | You could ring them |
| Play with them | Give them medicine |
| Be their friend | Take them out somewhere |
| Give them a present | Draw a picture for someone |
| Send them a card | Help someone do their work |
| Give them a compliment | Tell a joke |
| Let them with you | They could do some exercise |
| Hug a tree |
They then drew pictures illustrating how they could help to cheer up someone who was feeling sad. To finish the activity, each child wrote a kind message about their table partner and gave it to them to help brighten their day and promote kindness, empathy and positive relationships within the classroom. We also drew pictures of things that make ourselves happy to remind us that if we ever feel down, we can do the things that will make us smile again.
Year 1
Hey we made fun of the expressive movement breaks – we made use of the ‘soco bate vira’ song – and learnt the actions! When completing the Bright Spark jar (we used a box) we went through breathing in and out up and down our hands as well as other ways to regulate our emotions. We also passed a smile and a compliment around the circle as a first activity after the register as a verbal form of the sunshine bunting.
Year 2
Year 2 enjoyed raising awareness of World Mental Health Day by wearing yellow to school, learning all about what mental health is and taking time to think about all the things that make them happy, whether that be a place, a person or an activity. As well as, becoming aware of how to help others around them, by taking the time to listen and seeking the help of an adult.
